Shannon Mondry is a 4th dan black belt and a registered member of the Japan Karatedo Federation (JKF). With over 27 years of experience in Wado-Kai Karate, she brings a wealth of knowledge, discipline, and heart to her role as Head Instructor of Southern Utah Wado-Kai Karate, which she founded in 2019.
Southern Utah Wado-Kai Karate is an officially registered dojo with the Japan Karatedo Federation (JKF),upholding the highest standards of traditional Japanese karate training and ethics.
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Ms. Mondry’s journey into martial arts began later in life—though her fascination with karate started in childhood. As an adult, she made the decision to pursue formal training, a step that sparked a lifelong commitment to growth, resilience, and connection through karate.
Her training was rooted at the Denwakan Martial Center in Lakewood, Colorado, under the guidance of the esteemed Sadahuru Kurobane, Sensei. Under his instruction, Ms. Mondry developed not only advanced technical skills but also a deep respect for karate’s traditions, etiquette, and philosophy. She has participated in both national and international competition, gaining broad exposure to the global karate community.
