Karate Classes St. George, Utah

Shanon Mondry, a 27-year veteran of Wado-Kai Karate, is originally from Denver, Colorado. Her martial arts journey began later in life, though her interest in karate sparked in childhood. It wasn’t until adulthood that she formally began her training—a decision that would become a lifelong pursuit of discipline, growth, and connection.

Ms. Mondry trained under the esteemed Sadahuru Kurobane, Sensei, at Denwakan Martial Center in Lakewood, Colorado. Under his guidance, she gained a wide range of karate experience, including national and international competition. Her foundational training and long-standing membership in her formal dojo have fueled her deep passion for the art and philosophy of Wado-Kai.

“Karate is both a mental and physical experience like no other,” says Mondry. “It’s something you can learn and carry with you for life. The people you train with—your fellow karate-ka—and the Sensei you learn from become your karate family. We’re always changing, always learning and growing, always supporting one another along the path of personal development.”

She continues, “I was taught how to teach by Sensei Kurobane, and for that, I am grateful. I’m honored to continue the traditions of Wado-Kai Karate and carry forward Sensei Kurobane’s teachings through Southern Utah Wado-Kai Karate.”

Ms. Mondry is a registered 4th dan black belt and a proud member of the Japan Karatedo Federation (JKF), continuing to inspire students with her dedication, experience, and love for the martial art.
